Cranio Sacral Therapy

What exactly is Cranio Sacral Therapy?

The therapy leads you to a path of greater health and wellbeing by using a method you may never have considered before. It is challenging to write about CST as there is an energetic aspect to the work as well as a physical one. These are some of the words clients have used to describe their experience with me; ‘feeling accepted and safe’, ‘deep stillness and relaxation’, ‘inner peace’, ‘feeling whole again’. The most common feeling is that you have been heard in the truest sense of the word, and that provides great comfort. Sessions are individualized and personal to each client.

Many of us are living in a state of high alert. When we feel stressed our nervous systems activate the flight or fight response which keeps us ramped up and prevents us from healing well. CST works to treat the physical symptoms presented, for example chronic back pain or migraines, whilst also relieving the underlying stresses that were hidden in the body. It is about connecting to the true source of the illness or injury. Once we reach a place of balance in our nervous system, we have access to our natural vitality.

Who can benefit from Cranio Sacral Therapy?

CST does not specifically revolve around symptoms and diseases, it revolves around establishing the underlying strength of the system enabling the body to resolve disturbances on every level, so that anyone, whatever their condition, can potentially be helped.

Consequently, the applications of CST are very wide – from simple aches and pains to the most complex, chronic or persistent problems including colic and ear infections in babies, learning difficulties and asthma in children, to back pain, menstrual disorders, emotional stresses and the after effects of major accidents, injuries or serious illnesses in all ages. It is also effective in addressing conditions that have not responded to other forms of treatment, chronic diseases that seems to have no solution and obscure and abstract conditions that seem to have no specific cause such as ME.

I use gentle touch to meet the stresses, tensions and emotions in the body, then support the client in releasing them. I strongly believe the body has the ability to heal itself. When the body is under tension, it has to do extra work to compensate using up energy and creating strain. The release of this build up makes more energy available to us. I tune into the clients craniosacral rhythm by placing hands on skull, feet, shoulders and I can get an overall impression of wellbeing and where any difficulties are in the client’s body. Clients make the most progress when the body’s own wisdom is being followed.
